Cracker Barrel Restaurant's are so random

I went to lunch today at The Cracker Barrel with Gina and my brother in law Ben. As we waited for a table we took some time to check out the merchandise. I was reminded that Cracker Barrel's sell the most unusual random crap. These t-shirts are just a small example of the cheesy crap we found.

TV's in Bathrooms

I was at Champions Sports Bar & Restaurant here in Louisville yesterday for lunch. After drinking way too many diet cokes I made a dash for the bathroom. I was shocked to find TV's installed over each of the urinals. At first I laughed and then I thought it was pretty cool. Cool enough that I took this picture.

Members of Troop 145, West Long Branch, NJ chow down on chili they cooked at their camp site.

APP.COM v4.0 - MERITORIOUS FUN | Asbury Park Press Online: "MERITORIOUS FUN"
I was doing some random google searches this morning and found this newspaper article about my old Boy Scout Troop 145 in West Long Branch, NJ. The Asbury Park Press did a feature about them. Specifically it focused on their summer camp trip to Forestburg Scout Reservation. I loved that place the first time I went. As I got older I began to really hate it. It was really only fun when my best friend Steve Baxter was there. Go wilderness survival baby! Anyhow, this is a pretty good article.

Boyfriend charged in swallowed cell-phone case - Crime & Punishment - "Boyfriend charged in swallowed cell-phone case"
What a freak of nature. This guy shoved a cell phone down his ex-girlfriend’s throat last week. I've heard of abuse in relationships but this takes the cake.

Dunkin'’ Donuts ad actor Michael Vale dies - Television - "Dunkin'’ Donuts ad actor Michael Vale dies"
Its time to make the donuts. That was the famous phrase that was music to my ears. I loved riding my bike over to Dunkin Donuts in Eatontown, NJ on route 35. I would buy a dozen donuts and hide them in my desk. Every once in a while I would leave them in there too long and they would get nasty. It was fun though. It was an adventure to cross the big highway and get my hands on those delicious donuts. Everytime I would hear that voice say, "Its time to make the donuts", I would just smile.

Ex-Boy Scouts executive sentenced in porn case - Crime & Punishment -

Ex-Boy Scouts executive sentenced in porn case - Crime & Punishment - "Ex-Boy Scouts executive sentenced in porn case"
This is a very sad story. This gentleman was obviously a very sick man that lived two very different lives. One was something to be proud of. Serving the Boy Scouts of America on its national staff. The other a child predator. Those may seem like extreme words but that's what he was and is. I have no clue how he was able to keep those two worlds from colliding for so long.

New Years Day 2006 delayed by a second - U.S. Life - "New Years Day 2006 delayed by a second"
Have you ever heard of such a thing? Time being delayed by some group of scientists who says we need to add a second on New Years. For hundreds and thousands of years people lived without atomic clocks and changing time. Why now? If I try to understand it too much I might just get a headache.

I gave into the dark side

I can't believe I did it. I gave into the pressures that are all around us in the computer world to buy a Mac. Its painful to even type that. I had already ordered an ipod for Gina and decided I just needed to give in. So I got her an iMac g5 to go with her ipod. I guess it should be the other way around. Its very fun to play with but very confusing. I have no clue how to use it. I couldn't even figure out how to transfer the music from her IPOD to the new computer. I felt like an idiot. I'm sure I will have more Mac stories to share in the future.

The day before the day before Christmas

Its Friday before Christmas and I'm at work not really doing any work. I keep calling HR departments and leaving voicemails. Voicemails that I know won't be heard until Tuesday at the earliest. This sucks. I have one week left here at The Courier-Journal before my time comes to an end. I start at The Presbyterian Publishing Corporation on the Tuesday after New Years. I can't wait! Its time to get out of this joint.

I promise I'm not making this up

Louisville Metro Police Department is receiving calls from Drivers that a large pig is running southbound on Shelby in downtown. Callers say the pig is the largest one they have ever seen and its foaming at the mouth. 2:25 PM on December 16, 2005.

I got a job with Presbyterian Publishing Corporation

Yeah! After a few weeks of interviews I was offered a position yesterday with the Presbyterian Publishing Corporation and I excepted. What a gift to finally go back to working for an organization I believe in and proud to represent. Products that I actually care about selling. Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! I'm actually smiling right now just thinking about it. I resigned this morning from The Courier-Journal. I'll start my new job on January 3, 2006.

Man claims neighbors dogs keep killing his chickens

Ok, I'm a dork, I listen to my scanner from time to time. This is too funny. I can't help but to share. A man called the Louisville Police Department this morning to report that his neighbors dog has been killing his chickens. Only in Kentucky! Ha Ha Ha!

Rob Thomas Concert featuring Anna Nalick

Last night Gina and I saw Rob Thomas at The Louisville Palace. Our friend Jon got us the tickets as an anniversary present. Rob put on a great show. I loved the staging which included these LED boards I believe that put on an amazing light show for us. Too much fun. This newer artist Anna Nalick opened for him. She was really good as well. I don't know much about her expect for her hit song Breathe which is on the radio all the time. Last night reminded me how much I love live music. Too much fun. We were surrounded by lots of screaming drunk girls in the balcony. That was a show in itself. We experienced a few screaming sessions. Some screaming was for Rob the rest was at each other. One of the girls kept on grabbing our friend Jons arm and trying to get him to dance with her. That was hilarious. When all is said and done it was a great show. I would definitely go and see Rob Thomas again.

Mr. Miyagi from the Karate Kid has died at 73 years old...

I still can't believe it. I always thought Mr. Miyagi would live forever. He always will in my mind. This article about the Actor Pat Morita taught me a new fact. Mr. Miyagis first name was Kesuke. I had never known that before. I don't recall that ever being mentioned in any of the movies. Maybe thats one of those facts that I've just missed over the years. I now have a new fact to add to my Karate Kid trivia. This article also gives some more insight into Pats life. He was Born in northern California on June 28, 1932, the son of migrant fruit pickers, Morita spent most of his early years in the hospital with spinal tuberculosis. He later recovered only to be sent to a Japanese-American internment camp in Arizona during World War II. After the war, Morita's family tried to repair their finances by operating a Sacramento restaurant. It was there that Morita first tried his comedy on patrons. What a wild life he lived. Its sad that he didn't live longer. Here is a link to a video interview he had with the AP.

JORDAN WOOLLEY joins the cast of ATWT

I couldn't believe it when I heard it. JORDAN WOOLLEY from my Scout Troop, Troop 145 in West Long Branch, NJ is joining the cast of As The World Turns in the role of Mike's cousin Nick Kasnoff, whose first day in Oakdale proves explosive on Tuesday, December 27. I have many memories of Jordan as a younger kid in my troop. He always had this mischievouss grin on his face. He was a little bad ass/ trouble maker. Obviously hes turned out pretty well. Good for him.

EFF: Legal Guide for Bloggers

I remember when I first read about blogging. It was going to be this new form on online journaling and a great way to share what's happening in your life with family or friends. It didn't seem like a very hot topic. I'm amazed that now there are schools outlawing blogging. Trying to force students to shut down their blogs. Its just amazing! I came across this website that provides legal rights for bloggers. It's just amazing that its come to this.

Unreality TV: The final frontier

Just when I thought reality television was leveling off. A real life Truman show? These poor folks are going to be tricked into a fake trip into space. Its hard to believe they won't be able to figure it out at some point but I guess when a person is taken out of their comfort zone almost anything can happen. I'm a sucker! Here I am making fun and I'll probably be a huge fan.

C-J Broadway Webcam

C-J Broadway Webcam
Here at The Courier-Journal we have this really cool web cam that anyone can access. You can totally control the camera. You can pan back and forth and up and down and even zoom in and out. If the newspaper has this technology just think what the government can do.

KUTV: Latin Singer Hospitalized After Fall Off Stage

I promise I'm not laughing. I'm sure falling off a stage can be very dangerous. It just seems like something you would see in a movie or on a TV show. It's kind of funny. Just a bit.

Louisville Chapter of the Red Cross responds to forest fires west of Bardstown in Nelson and Hardin Counties

On Saturday night Fire officials were working two forest fires west of Bardstown in Nelson and Hardin County, and another fire at Fort Knox. The Louisville Chapter of The Red Cross was called in to assist in providing food and beverages for the firefighters. This was my first experience of a forest fire. As we were heading south on I-65 we were able to see the burning in the distance. It was like an orange glow all over the ridge line. Here are a few photos from the scene.

Volunteering with The Red Cross

A few months ago I started volunteering with The Red Cross. Specifically I'm on the local Disaster Assistance Team. Whenever individuals or families are displaced from their homes by either fire or flood The Red Cross is called in to provide help. Obviously floods don't happen very often but house fires happen all the time. I've been called to about 3 or 4 house fires now. The first one was a total loss. It was so sad. When I arrived the fire department was throwing burning rubble out of the attic onto the ground. Everything was smoking still. These images are stuck in my mind.

Presbyterian Youth Workers Association gathering at Zephyr Point in Lake Tahoe

I just got back from a week in Lake Tahoe. Gina and I flew in early and celebrated our 1st anniversary in Reno. We stayed at this really nice hotel called the Siena. She took advantage of the spa and I took advantage of Wheel of Fortune. Good times shared by all. Monday we drove down to the south end of Lake Tahoe where Zephyr Point is located. It was a very exciting week. I was lucky to be part of the kick off of our NEW Youth Worker association. PYWA. The Mission statement that we adopted is... Connecting, upholding and inspiring Presbyterian Youth Workers to faithfully serve the one triune God among young people. Short and straight to the point. Its another blah day at the office. I'd better get back to my blind calling and harassment.

Bomb Explosion In Baghdad Kills N.J. Native

Its never easy to hear about another death in this war. Its even more painfull when you realize its someone you knew. You group up with playing recreation sports after school. I remember Jimmy being a big husky kid. Pretty popular. Great big smile on his face all the time. A good guy. I'm very sad to hear that he was killed at such a young age. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and the community of Eatontown, NJ that I'm sure is mourning this loss. - News - Bomb Explosion In Baghdad Kills N.J. Native

Another day another dollar...

Yesterday was a big day for me. I made my first sales off of outbound calls I made a few weeks ago. It was the first sign I've had that all these calls and phone meetings will pay off at some point. Thanks goodness. I needed the confidence booster.

Ethics and Sales

This week has brought some new challenges to my job here at The Courier-Journal. My new position requires me to make contact with inactive customers and potential news customers through phone and e-mail. The priority is to set up a time for a phone meeting to do some needs analysis and learn about their recruitment process. My colleague has begun to place ads for folks that currently have account representatives assigned to them. My understanding is accounts are off limits if they have an active ledger account. Now were being told that if a company hasn't placed an ad in 90 days that the account are fair game to anyone. Well that's changes everything. We're no longer a team. No we've been given permission in my opinion to steal adds from our colleagues active ledger accounts. I just don't feel comfortable doing that. I know it's all part of sales, but I didn't sign up for stealing from friends potential income. This is a big wake up call that my moral decision making brain and heart don't fit into the sales world at all. Yikes!!!

Pentagon Barred From Funding Boy Scouts

This past week a US district court judge heard complaints from various organizations that were against the pentagon contributing to the costs of the National Boy Scout Jamboree. They claimed that the Boy Scouts shouldn't receive money since they exclude people who don't swear an oath to God. Call me naive but I do believe there are many Boy Scouts that are Non-Christian and don't pray to God. As you can see at this web site the Boy Scouts have various different religious organizations represented.
The Boy Scouts are not perfect in any way but I do believe the National Boy Scout Jamboree is an amazing opportunity for young scouts to meet other young people from around the country and world. The government is constantly funding programs that are not universally accepting of all people. Why is the Jamboree all the sudden so high on the radar screen. Maybe I have no clue what I'm talking about but this was an amazing experience for me when I was 13 years old. Why would our government not want to support this and other events that bring people together for positive reasons.

Crazy postal service lady!

This morning my wife and I were sitting on the front porch drinking coffee and reading the newspaper when all the sudden this mail lady came walking up our front yard. Now you might wonder why this is unusual. Well, I will tell you. Instead of using the side walk that leads up to our house she walked through our plants and up to the porch and handed us our mail. To make things even better she than proceeded to walk through our back yard. At that moment I lost control and ran in the house just laughing. A few moments later she came back out from the back yard and said something about that being the wrong short cut or something. She was not our normal mail person. I think she might have been third string or something.

Watering the plants

After spending the week inside since Gina got sick we had to get some fresh air. We decided to sit out on the front porch and read the paper. After a little while I got bored so I decided to water the front yard. Man, its really hot today. I guess I never mentioned what's going on with Gina. She was having some pain in her ankle a week ago and got it checked out by the doctor. After running some tests they found a blood clot in her leg. It was really scary! She's ok, but its still really scary. Tomorrow we have a big follow up visit.

I got a promotion!

A few weeks ago I interviewed and was offered a new position here at the Courier-Journal in the recruitment area. My new title will be Recruitment Account Executive. I'll be working with business's to create Job Wanted ads. Everyone from the local mechanic shop down the street to large corporations. I started my major training today. Its a lot of new information, but I think I can do it. Career builder is our main product. You might have seen our commercials during the super bowl or the NCAA finals. Well, its time to go home.

Pope predicted a short reign to cardinals

The new pope thinks his time left with us is limited. What a strange thing to say in light of the fact he just got selected. I could understand if after 10 years of service as the pope he might say I'm not sure how much more this body has left in it. In this case he's commenting on death within 24 hours of starting his new post. Just a little weird I think.

Slow and boring day!

I truly enjoy my job when there is something to do. Today the phones are just silent. Forget about that! The second I started writing that it was quiet the phones just took off.

This morning we had high school students visiting from Valley high school here in Louisville. It was a lot of fun to help them get a picture of what we do here in classifieds. They seemed to enjoy themselves. Better get back to work!

blogging has become too cool!

This whole blog thing has almost become too big. The news is obsessed with talking about bloggers from the left and bloggers from the right, and how they have some sort of radical effect on politics and society. How are blogs any different than the old school printed book. One is someones thoughts on paper and the blog is someones thoughts on the web. Its still just one persons opinion.
