This afternoon I was driving home from the grocery store and saw this weird looking truck in the distance. As I got closer I started laughing. It was a circuit city delivery truck that's shaped like a bubble. Very interesting!

A Prairie Home Companion Movie

Yesterday afternoon Gina and I had the pleasure of seeing A Prairie Home Companion the movie. We both agreed that it was a really good movie. After years of hearing this show on the radio in the car as a kid it was really neat to have a visual of the theater. Its an amazing cast as well. If you have a chance go and check it out.

Outgoing Moderators Preach at closing worship

This morning The PYC outgoing Co-Moderators Nathan Ballentine and Patricia Massey preached at the closing worship. They did an amazing job of sending out the participants. Not just to go home and remember but to go home and do. Make a difference today.

PC(USA) - 217th General Assembly (2006)

Presbyterians are beginning to arrive in Birmingham, AL. I already ran into my Aunt Dusty who is a commissioner this year for the first time. For updates throughout the next week please visit the following link. This years assembly is very tech savvy. Live feeds, photos and the works.

Condoleezza Rice: Southern Baptist Convention Speech

Last night Robert Hay was invited to introduce our preacher The Rev. Clyde Carter. During his introduction he mentioned an interesting fact that Rev. Carter was the pastor of I believe Westminster Presbyterian Church here in Birmingham and that he followed Condoleezza Rice's father was the pastor at that very church. This afternoon I was reminded of that story and just randomly googled Condoleezza Rice. I very quickly found a speech she gave to the Southern Baptist Convention this morning. She opens her remarks with a story about why she is Presbyterian and talks about her Presbyterian family history. Its a great little story. Check it out when you have a chance.

Co-Moderator elections were followed by a powerful worship experience at 16th St. Baptist Church

Yesterday was a very full day at The Presbyterian Youth Connection assembly. For the fourth time in the Youth Connection assembly's history Co-Moderators were elected. Casey and Nancy are going to do an amazing job. I will share more information about then in the coming days.

Being in Birmingham we had to take advantage of the rich history that occurred here during the civil rights movement. We had the opportunity to visit the Civil rights museum and then worship across the street at The 16th St. Baptist church. We were truly blessed to have The Rev. Clyde Carter as our preacher. He was one of the original FREEDOM riders. What a gift we all received through hearing his life story and experiences.

It's NOT ALL Fun and Games - Theology of Recreation

That's the title of the workshop I'll be teaching this week at the PYC Pre-Assembly starting tomorrow morning. Please keep me in your prayers. This is a wonderful workshop written by Lynn Turnage who is a great Rec. leader and educator. I'm not a very big rec guy. I love to participate and I stay away from leadership. In many ways this is a good learning experience for me. Pushing me to learn new things and all that good stuff. I feel good about leading the games but I still need to work on the second half of the workshop which is where we do some debriefing.

Tonight is the opening worship and celebration. Its time to get this baby started!

"Me Church"

My friend Robert posted this recently and I just had to share. What's truly scary is that this video reflects what many people think the church should be.

The 217th General Assembly of The Presbyterian Church (USA)

This morning Gina and I left our comfortable home and our cat Samantha for Birmingham, AL. This is the location of this years General Assembly gathering. Its been a pretty ruff first day. Upon arrival the hotel didn't have us booked until Monday. Then Ginas corporate credit card was denied. What a pain.

These steps of the Birmingham Convention Center will be filled with Presbyterian Youth starting on Monday and then Commissioners will arrive starting on Wednesday. It should be a crazy few weeks.

Sea Girt Army Camp has Mass Casualty

This evening at 7:39 pm I received a page letting me know that there was a Mass Casualty at Sea Girt Army Camp in New Jersey. Supposedly there are 30 people with Apparent food poisoning. I guess that's what army food does to ya.

I've never really been a gamer...

My brother has gotten me totally hooked on this game called Hollywood Stock Exchange or http://www.hsx.com. Its like a virtual stock market. Instead of trading companies your trading movies and actors. Its been a lot of fun. I had a feeling that The Break Up was going to have a huge opening weekend. Much larger than projected. Its a good thing I bought a lot of stocks when the cost was low. If your interested in finding out more information go to http://www.hsx.com/join/?referrer=drewsyboy

Bicycle Camera Mount

Every once in a while I come up with these crazy ideas. I can't help it, it's just the way my brain works. I found this website that has a design for making your own Bicycle Camera Mount. After making one and using it myself I came up with this idea to make more and sell them on eBay. If your interested you can find more information at http://www.buckspot.com. I put together this little video demonstration. Check it out!
